    Protein Summary

    The Sbal_2486 gene from Shewanella baltica encodes the YP_001050848 protein, a member of the protein family PF06938 (DUF1285), which is an uncharacterized family of bacterial proteins (COG3816). Sbal_2486 (PDB id: 2ra9) and SPO0140 (PDB id: 2re3) provide the first structural representatives of this family. Sbal_2486 genomic context analysis (Sbal_2485, transcriptional regulator, MarR family; Sbal_2487, FAD-linked oxidase domain protein; Sbal_1620, ATP-binding domain (DUF463)) indicates a possible functional association with nucleic acids.     The 2ra9 structure reveals a PH-like domain. According to DALI, 2ra9 shows structural similarity to 2re3 (Z=13), and very weakly hit with proteins that bind DNA or RNA (1prk, 1l3a, 2gia) or negatively charged oligosaccharides  (PDB:1plf; Z=2).
