    Protein Summary

    The gene SSO2532 from Sulfolobus solfataricus encodes NP_343872 protein belonging to the UPF0047/DUF74 family (PF01894). A predicted functional partner (score 0.7) for SSO2532 is the pyrI gene that codes for an aspartate carbamoyltransferase regulatory chain.

    SCOP classifies 1vph inside the class of alpha and beta (a+b), dodecin subunit-like fold, YbjQ-like (super)family SCOP117782. This protein is highly conserved among bacterial species, and several structures of its homologues from other organisms have been solved: 1VMF (Dali Zscr=22), from Bacillus halodurans; and 2CU5 (Z=18), from Thermus Thermophilus.  

    Dodecins are most likely involved in prokaryotic flavin storage and homeostasis [Ref][Ref].  The dodecin monomers assemble to hollow sphere-like usually dodecameric complexes.  The degree of oligomerization of dodecins seems to vary, depending on sequence variations and presence of the flavin cofactor.
