    Protein Summary

    The gene TM0820 from Thermotoga maritima encodes NADH-dependent butanol dehydrogenase A, which is a member of iron containing alcohol dehydrogenases. It is dimeric and comprises a Rossmann fold NAD binding domain and an all alpha domain, similar to several other oxidoreductases in the pdb. Both domains are involved in dimerization. The enzyme is highly homologous to NADH-dependent butanol dehydrogenase A from Sulfurihydrogenibium azorense PF00465 COG1979.  The enzyme catalyzes the reversible oxidation of butanol to butanaldehyde with the concomitant reduction of NAD E.C.  The NADH-dependent butanol dehydrogenases bdhA and bdhB from Clostridium acetobutylicum can use both ethanol and butanol as substrates  [Ref].
