    lectin-like urea carboxylase associated protein

    Summary

    Two experimentally solved proteins (3oru/3siy, 3id4) from this family contain a variant of a lectin fold with novel, potentially function changing inserts. Proteins from this family are most often found in the urea carboxylase/allophanate hydrolase pathway, which provides an alternative nitrogen fixation mechanism using biotin and consumes ATP, rather than nickel-dependent urease. Occasional fusions with polysaccharide deacetylase domain is also found (Grosmannia clavigera kw1407). Several proteins from this family are annotated as Aminomethyltransferases (EC 2.1.2.10) in SEED, but the structures of are not similar to that of classical aminomethyltransferases (e.g. 1vlo).
