Based on remote homology confirmed by the structure one can hypothesize that this family is probably involved in processing of nucleic acids

     

    A fastSCOP search of this target indicates that it belongs to the nucleotidyl transferase fold and the DNA-beta polymeraseSCOP family. A structure representative of UPF0157 has been determined by MCSG (PDB ID 2nrk). A DALI seach shows that PDB ID 2nrk has similarity to PDB ID 3hiy, an [Ref]. (DALI Z-score  7.8, rmsd 3.6 Ang, 8% sequence identity). 

    A literature search shows that functional studies on UPF0157 have been reported for the protein from M. tuberculosis [Ref]. The investigators report that proper folding of dephospho-CoA kinase. The mycobacterial enzyme is atypical compared to its counterparts in the prokaryotic kingdom as it possesses an extra domain C-terminal to the dephosphocoenzyme A kinase, which belongs to the Unknown Protein Family, UPF0157 (Pfam database); to which no function has been assigned till date. We show that this domain is essentially required for the proper folding of the mycobacterial CoaE, delineating region 35–50 (KIACGHKALRVDHIG) of this domain as essential for the latter function.
