    Summary

    Pfam family PFAM:PF01980 {Uncharacterized protein family UPF0066 } with 397 members in NR database and additional 97 members in the metagenomic datasets is represented in Archaea, Bacteria, and Eukaryota. The first structural representative solved (PDB Id: TOPSAN:1xqb) was subject to FATCAT structural similarity search that yielded no results, thus suggesting that it is a novel fold.

    Proposed new name: TsaA-like methyltransferase. 

    The second and third structural representatives solved (2nv4 and 3okx) both contain bound S-adenosyl methionine cofactor. 

    The gene tsaA which most likely encodes tRNA(m6t6A37)methyltransferase is located at min 4.6 on the E. coli chromosomal map (PMID: 9537379). There are no other known methyltransferase-like genes in this location but yaeB, the founding member of this family, which is probably identical with tsaA.

     
    Contains an EI (Elongation factor-Isomerase)(PMID: 12553882) barrel domain that is found in several translation factors and RNA binding proteins. Since it binds AdoMet it might function as a cofactor-binding subunit for a methylase or a methyltransferase itself.
