    Summary

    Pfam family PFAM:PF01796 {Domain of unknown function DUF35 } with 1010 members in NR database and additional 561 members in the metagenomic datasets is represented in Archaea, and Bacteria.

    The first structural representative solved (PDB Id: TOPSAN:3irb) was subject to FATCAT structural similarity search that indicated similarity to SCOP (v. 1.73) domain SCOP:d1ueba3 classified as OB-fold fold. Profile-profile methods confirm a remote homology between this family and the superfamily of nucleic acid binding domains belonging to the OB-fold. A Dali search with 3irb provides only weak hits (Z-scr=4) with OB-fold proteins from the ethanolamine utilization operon (EutN)  like 2hd3, 2z9h, and 2qw7.

    Based on remote homology confirmed by the structure, one can hypothesize that this family binds nucleic acids [Ref].
